Introduction

I want to learn more about and fully grasp the subject, and I'm looking for more meaningful ways to connect and search for information about PBS programs.

What are your thoughts about the Semantic Web? Is it the next Big Thing?

I'm excited by it. I think traditional databases as query tools are about played out, particularly given the difficulty of creating complete records in distributed data entry environments. We need a smarter intermediary layer to help us do searches.

Which new technologies would you like to learn? Have you worked with any "semantic" technologies such as XML, RDF, OWL, GRDDL, or SPARQL?

I want to learn all of them. I have learned enough about XML to export PBS program data in the PBCore metadata format, an extension of Dublin Core, but I'm just getting started.

Which applications or web sites will make the Semantic Web a reality in the public eye?

As a beginner, I haven't bridged the gap between the technical descriptions and the "it's magic and it's going to save the world" descriptions. The successful applications will make that clearer to everyone.
