Due to popular demand, PAWS is having a Basics of Semantic Technology Meetup. The Meetup will cover the basic technologies and software that are commonly referred to as Semantic Technologies. This includes, but not limited to: text mining, semantic database technologies, ontologies, W3C standards, data formats and a little basic theory to round things out.

The speakers will be:

Jeff Pollock - Mr. Pollock is the author of Semantic Web for Dummies and is a Senior Director with Oracle’s Fusion Middleware group, responsible for management of Oracle’s data integration product portfolio. Mr. Pollock was formerly an independent systems architect for the Defense Department, Vice President of Technology at Cerebra and Chief Technology Officer of Modulant, developing semantic middleware platforms and inference-driven SOA platforms from 2001 to 2006.

Walter Pezzini
- Mr. Pezzini is VP of Pre-Sales and Professional Services at Expert System USA. He has great expertise in Natural Language Processing, Business Intelligence, Sentiment Analysis and Semantic Search. Expert System is the leading provider of semantic software, which discovers, classifies and interprets text information.

Jans Aasman Ph.D.- Dr. Jans Aasman is President and CEO of the database company Franz. His previous experience and educational background include: KPN Research, the research lab of the major Dutch telecommunication company. Tenured Professor in Industrial Design at the Technical University of Delft. Title of the chair: Informational Ergonomics of Telematics and Intelligent Products. Carnegie Mellon University. Visiting Scientist at the Computer Science Department of Prof. Dr. Alan Newell. Researcher at the Traffic Research Center of the University of Groningen (The Netherlands). Experimental and cognitive psychology at the University of Groningen, specialization: Psychophysiology, Cognitive Psychology.

    Is there anyone going to the meetup from San Francisco that I can hitch a ride with? Caltraining down there and back is not too much fun.

    I am surely excited, am a newbie but unfortunately only 75 sits and am probably 43rd in waiting list...is there a chance that all the people on the waiting list be accomodated?
